Privacy policy

The short version: we collect what we need to charge your car and run our business. We never sell or share your personal information, and we honor Global Privacy Control.
This policy explains how Volt Runner EV LLC ("VoltRunner EV", "we") handles personal information on voltrunnerev.com, in our emails and texts, and in our charging service. It is also our notice at collection under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), as amended by the CPRA.
What we collect and why

Retention for contact and location details: waitlist entries are kept until we launch in your area and for 24 months after our last contact with you, unless you ask us to delete them sooner. Newsletter subscriptions last until you unsubscribe; after that we keep only your email address on a suppression list so we never email you again. Member records are kept while your membership is active and for 2 years after it ends. Business inquiries are kept for 24 months.
Where it comes from
From you, when you fill in a form, join, book or contact us. From our Runners, who record service details and photos. From service providers such as Stripe (payment status) and, for job applicants who accept a conditional offer, background check providers with your written authorization.
How we use it
- To provide the service: bookings, charging, live tracking, receipts and support.
- To send messages you asked for: service emails and texts, and The Current newsletter if you subscribed.
- To plan where we launch next, using waitlist ZIP codes.
- To keep people and property safe, prevent fraud and abuse, and meet legal obligations.
Precise location and access details are sensitive personal information. We use them only to deliver the service you asked for, never to profile you or infer things about you.
Who we disclose it to
We use service providers who process information for us under contracts that stop them using it for anything else: cloud hosting and database providers, email delivery (Resend), text messaging (Twilio), payments (Stripe), maps (Mapbox), and privacy-friendly analytics (PostHog, only if you allow it). We may disclose information when the law requires it, to protect someone's safety, or as part of a merger or sale of the business, in which case this policy continues to apply.
We don't sell or share
We have not sold or "shared" (for cross-context behavioral advertising) personal information in the last 12 months, and we don't sell or share the personal information of anyone under 16. We don't use advertising cookies or pixels.
Global Privacy Control
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as an opt-out of sale and sharing and keep analytics switched off, without you needing to do anything. You can review your choices on the cookie preferences page.
Your California privacy rights
If you live in California, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we hold about you and how we use and disclose it, and get a copy
- Delete personal information we collected from you, with some exceptions
- Correct inaccurate personal information
- Opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information (we don't sell or share it)
- Limit the use of sensitive personal information (we already use it only to provide the service)
- Not be discriminated against for using any of these rights
To make a request, use our privacy request form or email info@voltrunnerev.com. We verify requests by confirming control of the email address we have on file, and may ask for more information for requests about sensitive data. An authorized agent can make a request for you with your signed permission. We confirm receipt within 10 business days and respond within 45 days. We honor these requests for everyone, not only California residents.
Children
Our service is for adults. We don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16.
Security
We encrypt data in transit and at rest, encrypt gate codes and access notes, limit staff access to what each role needs, and log administrative actions. Card numbers never touch our servers. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach affects you, we'll tell you as the law requires.
Job applicants
When you apply for a job, we collect your contact details, résumé and anything you tell us, to assess your application and communicate with you. We don't ask about conviction history before a conditional offer. After a conditional offer, and only with your written authorization, a consumer reporting agency runs a background check and driving-record review. We keep applications for 4 years, as California law requires, and you have the same rights described above.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top, and for material changes we'll email members before the change takes effect.
